I've lived here for going on 4 years now. Initially moved here for work after I transitioned out of the military, and actively trying to leave. Inflation in this area is ridiculous. Cost of living is again, ridiculous. I'm from Ohio but, have lived in a wide range of states throughout my life, and I can contest that Lexington Park, MD, is just atrocious. I make roughly 86k a year and taxes alone knock me down to about 50-60k a year. I have a well-paying job but, the state itself is notoriously bad for taxing its middle-class workers. I don't even consider the OT anymore because my bring home after taxes is only 300 dollars a day! That's basically what I work for during normal hours! Area has been growing throughout the years, as the base keeps an influx of new workers and families flowing. If you are looking to buy a home (which I have been), forget about it. You'll end up paying 350k for a 1200 sq. ft. home with no land, people on top of you, a ridiculous HOA, and no extra money for anything else for you to enjoy (unless you want to bite the Great Mills bullet, which is not worth the cease of life risk in my opinion). Crime rate is horrid, schools were making a comeback, but are on the downfall again. Overall, I wouldn't consider the move here, nor the thought. I was seeking a fresh start in a new state and the employer reached out to me about the current "opportunity". Unless you are young, single, no debt, and needed some job experience from NAVAIR, or Older, well-established, can get a top tier paying NAVAIR job, I seriously, wouldn't consider living here.
